Pause is the cessation of speaking within or between sentences. There are three major junctures often used in speaking, namely.
Plus juncture
This is used on single words. The pause is very fast; it occurs in just a split of a second.
Example: hair + brush = hairbrush
Single bar
The single bar separates words in a sentence appropriately when the sentence is a little bit long but has no punctuation in it. The pause here is a little bit longer than the plus juncture.
Double bar or Double cross bar juncture
The double bar juncture is the pause given to punctuations like the comma, the period, the semi-colon, and the colon, This is also followed by a falling intonation.
